Message:Our attitude determines our receptivity to God's word.
(Fr. Anthony Heng, CDD)
In the parable of the sower, Jesus teaches that God's word is like seeds sown on different types of soil, representing various attitudes people have towards receiving His message. The first type of soil is the roadside, symbolizing a hardened heart that refuses to listen to God's word, allowing the seeds to be quickly snatched away by birds. The second type of soil is the rocky ground, representing those who initially receive God's word with enthusiasm but lack depth, so they give up when faced with difficulties. The third type of soil is the thorny ground, representing hearts preoccupied with worldly worries, wealth, and material possessions, leaving no room for understanding God's word. Lastly, the fourth type of soil is good soil, representing a receptive heart willing to hear and understand God's word, allowing the seeds to take root, grow, and produce abundant fruit.
This parable reminds us that our attitude determines our receptivity to God's word. A hardened, easily discouraged, or worldly heart prevents us from truly grasping God's message. However, an open and patient heart, willing to listen to God's word and apply it in our lives, will bear abundant fruit and allow us to be God's agents of love and truth in the world.
Therefore, this parable encourages us to maintain a sensitive heart, always ready to receive God's word. We should remove the stones and thorns from our hearts, allowing God's word to take deep root within us, and live out His truth and love in our daily lives. Only then can we bear abundant fruit in God's kingdom and become faithful disciples of His.
